Liposuction and Liposculpture

Liposuction is a surgical technique used to remove unsightly fat deposits from certain areas of the body, including the face and neck, arms, trunk, abdomen, buttocks, hips and thighs, knees, calves, and ankles.
Liposuction is not a substitute for weight reduction, but a method of removing localized deposits of fatty tissue that do not respond to diet or exercise. Liposuction can be performed as a primary procedure to improve body contour, or in combination with other surgical techniques, such as a facelift, tummy tuck, or thigh lift, to tighten relaxed skin and supporting structures. The best candidate for liposuction is the relatively normal-weight individual who has excess fat in certain areas of the body.

The term "liposculpture" refers to the combination of liposuction and lipoinjection, that is, the extraction of fat from unsightly sites in the body and its subsequent injection into sites where an increase in volume is required, thus achieving a significant improvement in facial or body contour.

Key points:

Common sites of lipoinjection on the face are, for example, nasolabial folds (pronounced wrinkles from the wings of the nose to the mouth), puppet lines (from the sides of the mouth down) and the eyebrow. In addition, fat injection can be used to correct some irregularities at the level of the breasts, abdomen or to increase the volume of the buttocks.

The procedure has a variable duration (between one and four hours), depending on the number of areas to be treated and the volume of fat to be aspirated. It can be carried out on an outpatient basis or with postoperative hospitalization of an average night.

It is performed under general anesthesia or through regional blocks and sedation depending on the region to be treated and the preference of the patient.

What can i expect

The approximate recovery time to return to daily activities is variable depending on the extent of the areas to be treated, and ranges from approximately 3 to 10 days.

Among the restrictions during the recovery period are: do not sunbathe for at least a month, do not carry heavy objects, do not bend over. A special compression garment (girdle, chin collar, sleeve, etc.) should be used depending on the area treated, to ensure a satisfactory result. The patient can perform light exercise at approximately 3 weeks, and intense exercise between 5 and 7 weeks after surgery. A certified plastic surgeon is the only specialist who has the knowledge, surgical training and experience necessary to perform this type of procedure under conditions of maximum safety for the patient.
